Week 1 of SAMW 2014

SAMW is Summer Acoustic Music Week, an adult Summer camp for people who like or would like to sing and play the  roots-based alternate popular music of America, sometimes called “folk music,” and – as it turns out – for singer/songwriters who wish to hone their craft in the company of peers. Lorraine is one of the co-founders of SAMW. She  became Musical Director when the Founding All-Father Dick Pleasants retired.

One guiding principle at SAMW is that teaching staff will always be active performers whose  art is steeped in tradition. Another is that too much work -work makes artists run and hide whenever they can. SAMW campers get to spend hours with the stars, not only in class but at the beach, at meals, on the porch, no one is working too hard and everyone’s having fun.

Week 1 July 13 – 19, 2014

Banjo Camp North, Fall Edition! Charlton MA

Lorraine and I will joyfully head back to Banjo Camp at Prindle Pond Centre in Charlton, MA. She runs the beginner track, and I help out here and there with guerilla banjo workshops, guitar tutoring ‘n’ stuff.  It’s the most fun there is. Tell ’em “Bennett sent me” and I get 50 bucks!

SAMW ’12 Reunion and ’13 Registration

The SAMW 2012 Reunion and 2013 Registration get-together will be on January 6,  2013 at UMass Boston. 1 p.m.

You may have read rapturous rhapsodies about SummerAcousticMusicWeek, but if you ain’t been there, you  just don’t know. For the curious, there is a real taste of SAMW at our annual January reunion and pre-registration, where old friends and new ones come to jam and mingle and snack and hear about next Summer’s line-up. Come on down. You’ll be right at home.
